Shady Oak is a shingle-style cottage residence on Kiawah Island, designed beneath a canopy of live oaks and composed around shaded outdoor rooms, a fairway setting, and relaxed Lowcountry living.
Shady Oak rests beneath a canopy of live oaks on a Kiawah Island fairway. Its steep, kick-eaved roof and swept dormers descend over cedar-shingle and lap-sided walls, giving the home the familiar character of a seaside cottage with a cleaner, more contemporary expression. Black divided-light windows and bracketed bay dormers sharpen the traditional form without diminishing its warmth.
The house is organized around a series of outdoor rooms. A raised deck extends to a negative-edge pool and spa, crossed by a wood-plank walkway over the water. Nearby, a screened porch anchored by a brick fireplace and brick columns opens through folding glass walls, allowing the shaded landscape to become part of the interior living space.
